Study permit is a residence permit for students. Students with EU/EEA/Switzerland citizenship do not need a study permit.
Students from outside EU/EEA/Switzerland need a study permit to attend their studies in Norway. In order to get the study permit, you must document that you have sufficient funds to cover the tuition and living costs in Norway. Without such documentation, a study permit will not be granted.
Please start the study permit application process immediately after receiving the admission letter. For more information see the website of the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration.
International students coming to Bergen or Kristiansand are normally guaranteed accommodation through the local student welfare organisation, provided that the accommodation is applied within the deadline.*
Students coming to NLA Bergen can apply for housing through the student welfare organisation Sammen. The application deadline for the autumn semester is 10 May, and for the spring semester 1 November (the application deadlines may be subject to change). Please apply here: Sammen housing — Bergen.
Students coming to NLA Kristiansand can apply for housing through the student welfare organization SiA. Before applying, you need a pre-booking code that you will receive from International Office at NLA after accepting your study place. You must not apply without the pre-booking code. The application deadline for the autumn semester is 15 June and for the spring semester 15 November. Please apply here: SiA housing - Kristiansand.
*Degree-seeking students from Nordic countries applying for a study place by 1 June are not necessarily guaranteed accommodation. In order to be covered by the housing guarantee, we recommend all international students to apply for a study place by 15 April.
Booking accommodation through the local student welfare organization is voluntary, and it is at your own responsibility. It is important to familiarize yourself with the terms and conditions in your housing contract. Please notice that if you cancel your accommodation after the withdrawal deadline, you might have to pay the rent for 3-6 months. The housing contract is between you and the student welfare organization.
